Hospice Volunteers Volunteers play a vital role within the hospice team, ranging from engagement with patients and families to clerical and office support. Hospice volunteers have a natural desire for caring, providing support to patients and their families along their difficult journeys. Volunteers have described their work as satisfying and emotionally enriching. Families describe them as a gift in their lives at the time of need. Volunteering can come in all forms, such as one-on-one visits with patients and their families or helping in the office to provide support to the nursing and care staff.
