Description GEI's California Water resources practice is growing, and we are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Rancho Cordova office. The candidate will also provide support to GEI’s companywide Structural/Geo-Structural practice. This individual will assist with inspection, evaluation, design, and construction observation of hydraulic structures, including dams, spillways, outlet works, gates, water conveyance structures, and pump stations. Strong design experience with steel, concrete, and a theoretical background with experience in applying analyses to practical solutions, including linear and non-linear finite element modeling and analyses under static and dynamic loading, is desired. A working knowledge of geotechnical engineering to assist in the design of soil/structure interaction elements is preferred. The selected candidate will work with senior leadership in GEI’s California Rancho Cordova office and elsewhere. Essential Responsibilities&Duties Manage small to medium projects within technical specialty. Responsibilities will include structural analysis and design of hydraulic structures related to dams, flood control, hydroelectric facilities, and other water resource projects. Typical structures include spillways, outlet works, canals, storm drainage facilities, flood walls, and pump stations. Collaborate with senior project managers and technical staff across the company. Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel. Evaluate and analyze collected data and prepare technical reports, letters, and memoranda. Prepare and review design calculations, permit documents, and reports. Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and bid documents. Assist with the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets. Assist with the preparation of proposals to provide professional services and support other GEI offices with proposals and the delivery of professional services. Minimum Qualifications B.S. degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with an M.S./Ph.D. degree preferred. 5-10 years of professional experience in Civil Engineering and Water Resources related fields. Licensed as a Professional Engineer in California or ability to obtain within one year of hire date. Strong theoretical background in earthquake/seismic engineering and finite element modeling with expertise in using standard structural engineering software (SAP2000 and LS DYNA/ANSYS). Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere. Willing to travel to site locations, on temporary assignments as necessary, including field assignments. Valid driver’s license. We are GEI.
