Job Description Sompo has a unique opportunity for a 2025 Healthcare Underwriting Trainee in our Boston, MA office. Our Trainee Program is an 18-month program beginning in July 2025 designed to equip you with the essential business and technical skills needed to build a successful career in insurance. As an Underwriting Trainee, you will work alongside experienced underwriters to gain in-depth knowledge of our business units and underwriting philosophy through on-the-job learning and workplace mentoring. You will work directly on product accounts, building relationships and identifying customers’ needs. This rigorous curriculum also includes training in negotiation, risk analysis, and relationship management. What can I expect as an Underwriting Trainee? On-The-Job Learning: Sompo Trainees are immersed in the day-to-day activities of their team, assisting Underwriters in exposure analysis and operational analysis of insureds, compiling competitor analysis, and working with Underwriting Assistants in developing renewal lists. Activities, Learning and Development: Professional designation courses provide Trainees with technical knowledge of insurance operations. Sompo supports employees pursuing continuing education opportunities by covering costs and providing additional compensation for successful completion of courses. Career Development Support: We encourage employees to strengthen their skills and expand their understanding of the business. What will I need to be an Underwriting Trainee? Qualifications, Skills, and Experience We consider graduating Seniors and recent college graduates with experience in insurance, financial services, marketing, or sales. Additional requirements include: Bachelor’s degree required Graduation date between May 2024 and May 2025 Critical thinking ability and analytical skills Strong communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively Integrity and reliability Technical accuracy and software skills Willingness to relocate Salary Range: $65,000 – $77,500. Actual compensation will depend on several factors including qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
