Student TA - GAM-205 (Holcomb, Onorati), F24 Department: Department of Game Development&Production Job Title: Student TA - GAM-205 (Holcomb, Onorati), F24 Reports to: Jeremy Holcomb Class Times: Fridays – 1:00–6:00 p.m. Essential Functions: A Teaching Assistant (TA) is expected to assist the instructor during class and lab time, as requested by the instructor(s). TAs may additionally be asked by the instructor(s) to provide written feedback for and assist with grading of coursework outside of the class and lab time. Students may request to meet with TAs outside of class and lab hours. All work done for this position must be done while the student employee is not currently scheduled to be in a class or lab they are enrolled in, without exception. TAs will meet weekly with the instructor for performance feedback and duty modification and will receive a full evaluation once per semester. Duties and Responsibilities: Providing written and verbal feedback regarding the design, art, audio, and technical implementation of 2D and 3D games made by teams of designers (BAGDs) in the Unity and Unreal engine. Assisting teams with production needs for their projects (milestone prep, presentation rehearsal, etc.). Assisting students with debugging technical problems (C#, Blueprints, Gameplay Implementation, etc.) in both the Unity and Unreal engines. Grading/verifying turn-in of coursework by students such as game projects and weekly work logs. Accountable for tracking and reporting the amount of time worked. Qualifications/Competencies: A grade of at least a “B” in GAM-200 or GAM-205 (please note you may apply for this job even if not a BAGD student) . Willingness and desire to support students through in-person and digital communication. Ability to identify when a situation requires you to ask for help from superiors. Ability to be in-person for the primary course lab time(s) (see above class times). Experience (if wanted): Ideal candidates will have acted before in a leadership position (such as a GAM team Producer, GAM team Creative Director, GAM team Technical Director, a separate TA/Tutor position, etc.). Candidates should be familiar with task-tracking software such as Trello, ClickUp, ProofHub, etc. Candidates should be familiar with source control and its usage (SVN and/or Git) to a point that they would be comfortable assisting with merge conflicts or other similar errors that come up in the natural course of software development. Candidates must be reachable through Microsoft Teams and/or Email and reply back to instructor and student inquiries promptly. While ideally candidates have experience using both the Unity and Unreal engines, candidates will still be considered if they show a strong understanding of at least one of these engines. As part of your application, you must in detail describe your experience with both engines, including what features and tools of the engines you have experience with, and to what level. You do not need to cover every feature of each engine, just the parts of the engine you feel very strong in, and what you would not want to be called upon to assist a team with. Expected number of hours per week: 6-8 Wage Range: $16.28 - 17.25 per hour, depending on the number of terms worked at DigiPen. DigiPen Student Employee Academic Requirements: Are currently a Matriculated student at DigiPen Institute of Technology. Good Academic Standing – not on Academic Warning as defined in DigiPen Course Catalog. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Have taken and passed either GAM-200 or GAM-205 with a B or better.
