ABOUT THE ROLE: The Tax Auditor plays a critical role in the tax resolution process to analyze financial records, identify potential tax issues, and ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations. This role requires a high level of expertise in tax law and auditing procedures. The Tax Auditor will conduct in-depth audits, prepare reports, and collaborate with other tax professionals to achieve favorable outcomes for clients facing tax disputes or audits. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Conduct comprehensive reviews of client tax documentation, financial records, and IRS notices Analyze tax returns and supporting documentation to identify potential audit triggers. Prepare detailed audit reports and work papers. Review and evaluate client financial statements and tax positions. Identify opportunities for penalty abatement and tax liability reduction. Develop defense strategies for client tax positions. Review and respond to IRS and state tax agency correspondence. Present findings and recommendations to clients. Conduct client consultations and status meetings. Maintain current knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and IRS procedures. Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and procedures. Review tax transcripts and account records. Research complex tax issues and precedents. Monitor changes in tax legislation and IRS procedures. Coordinate with tax attorneys and CPAs on complex resolution cases. Document all case activities in detail. Track case progression and deadlines. Maintain accurate client records. Develop resolution strategies and action plans. Collaborate with various departments to obtain missing information, tax returns, or documents necessary for case resolution. Keep team members informed of progress and collaborate effectively to facilitate seamless resolution processes. Clearly and regularly communicate with technical colleagues and management. Work with internal stakeholders to translate improvement project technical specifications into a roadmap and execute on those projects. Request and organize client tax documents. Prepare and maintain audit work papers. Process and file tax forms and correspondence. Maintain document retention schedules. Organize and archive case files. Review work papers for accuracy and completeness. Verify calculations and assessments. Ensure proper documentation of procedures. Monitor compliance with internal policies. Maintain quality standards in all case work. Proactively identify areas for process enhancement within the Tax Resolution Department and collaborate with team members to implement improvements, ensuring optimal efficiency and client satisfaction. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE: Active PTIN and CAF number with IRS are required. CPA /EA license required. 2-3 years of experience in tax auditing, preferably with a background in tax resolution or public accounting. 2 years of experience with a tax related CRM. Possess excellent computer (G Suite, Microsoft Office) skills. Experience with IRS audits and examinations. Previous experience in taxpayer representation. Background in accounting, tax preparation, or tax consulting. Familiarity with IRS collections and appeals processes College degree (GED); or five years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
