This position will be responsible for: Providing assistance to Control Room Operations staff on their respective shift, including emergent, complex, and unusual situations, and serving as a resource on departmental policies and procedures. Assisting in training new personnel. Performing monthly tests and verification of hospital emergency cellular phones, as well as verifying and testing emergency telephone numbers to neighboring institutions, ambulance companies, and outside vendors. Reporting any system malfunctions and technical and operational issues to department management. Performing weekly Elevator communication checks and monitoring all hospital audio and visual security equipment, including closed-circuit surveillance cameras, intercoms, and security computer systems linked to door and panic alarms throughout the hospital complex. Providing access control for parents, patients, visitors, and employees to neighboring institutions, as well as monitoring all fire alarm systems for the hospital complex and BCH Satellite Properties. Responsible for activations of internal Code Red drill procedures and dispatching. Contacting Fire Department through direct emergency phone and informing them of current alarm status and location. Dispatching security and hospital engineering personnel and notifying appropriate hospital personnel of activity associated with the fire alarm systems. Inputting information through the fire alarm keyboard to initiate actions associated with the fire alarm system. Monitoring, operating, and interpreting information relevant to Life Safety and critical care systems within the hospital, such as building engineering systems, facility automation systems, life support generators, and medical gas systems. Dispatching appropriate engineering personnel to respond to activity associated with engineering equipment systems and assisting engineering and contractor personnel in performing drills, testing engineering, and verifying alarms. Dispatching requests for assistance to appropriate security, safety, medical, or hospital engineering personnel, and initiating contact with senior hospital administrators and outside agencies during situations such as internal and external disasters. Generating Engineering Work Orders and Security Reports for all pertinent activity during each shift. Operating each shift independently and making decisions during emergency situations. Documenting and entering maintenance requests and alarms into Engineering (Facilities) work order system. Documenting and entering all Security requests and alarms into Security Incident Reporting and Investigation Management system and reporting system malfunctions, technical problems, and operational difficulties to appropriate personnel. Following emergency chemical spill response procedures. Monitoring multiple radio frequencies simultaneously and discerning priorities. To qualify, you must have: A high school diploma or GED and two years of dispatcher experience, with six months in BCH control room operations.
