The inpatient Child Psychiatric Unit is a 12-bed unit designed to provide crisis intervention and stabilization to children aged 3-13 years. The average length of stay is three to seven days, with each patient receiving an initial psychiatric evaluation upon admission. Treatment may include additional psychological and medical evaluations as needed. The treatment team can consist of the following: Attending Psychiatrist, Individual Therapist (Residents/Fellows), Medical Students, Psychology Interns, Family Therapist (LSW), Expressive Art Therapist, Educational Assistant, Registered Nurses, and Child Psychiatric Specialists. The Adolescent Psychiatric Unit (APU) is a 14-bed short-term treatment unit that provides extensive bio-psychosocial treatment services to adolescents aged 14-17 years. The program is designed to provide a safe and therapeutic environment to facilitate stabilization, evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care of the hospitalized adolescent. Milieu Management is utilized to effect a positive change in the patient's behavior by providing a supportive and nurturing environment that encourages constructive interactions. All nursing practice is based on legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. Registered professional nurses are responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC supports the development of RN relationships within the community, particularly those associated with the health and well-being of the community at large. In collaboration with the department's Nurse Managers, they support optimal service outcomes by developing professional staff and other direct caregivers in a defined service specialty. As members of the department's leadership team, they participate in and are accountable for continuous assessment of service needs, strategic planning, process design, and goal attainment. Qualifications Minimum Education BSN (Required) Master's Degree (Preferred) Minimum Work Experience 5 years Nursing experience (Required) 2 years Experience in area of specialty (Preferred) Functional Accountabilities Professional Practice Participate/support Shared Leadership. Assess and assure competency of assigned staff in accordance with regulatory requirements. Facilitate CNMC sponsored lectures and conferences. Use teaching methods that facilitate the education process for adult learners. Clinical Demonstrate and maintain clinical expertise in area of specialty by providing direct patient care. Facilitate problem solving of clinical care issues. Maintain knowledge of individual patient care needs and communicate complex care requirements to the care team. Participate in clinical pathway development. Accountable for establishing, implementing, communicating, and evaluating interdisciplinary plan of care. Quality/Research Ensure nursing practice is based on evidence of best practice. Assess and identify opportunities for improvement. Direct and guide clinical quality improvement efforts. Facilitate staff learning concepts and theories of quality improvement. Participate in the creation of new knowledge in the specialty area. Facilitate research into practice.
