Firehawk is looking for a dedicated and experienced System Safety Engineer to support our mission of creating cutting-edge defense solutions while prioritizing safety and environmental responsibility. The System Safety Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring that Firehawk Aerospace maintains the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental protection throughout its operations. Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including MIL-STD-882 and other contractual safety requirements. Conduct thorough risk assessments of workplace and test range environments, processes, and equipment to identify potential hazards and implement effective mitigation strategies. Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire, chemical, and hazardous material spills, and conduct drills and training to prepare employees. Manage and oversee environmental compliance, including hazardous material and waste management, air quality, and water quality. Prepare and deliver presentations at technical reviews and customer briefings and coordinate System Safety Working Group (SSWG) meetings. Develop and enforce health and safety policies and procedures. Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, providing root cause analysis and recommending corrective actions. Coordinate and conduct safety training programs for employees. Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies. Continuously assess and enhance EHS programs. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of relevant EHS experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, or defense industry setting. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards. Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and its associated analyses. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Familiarity with emergency response and incident investigation procedures. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds; may require minimal walking, standing for extended amounts of time, climbing, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and safety shoes. Security Clearance: May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship.
