Job Description - Recreation Therapist Supvr (24143097) Position Title: Recreation Therapist Supvr - ( 24143097 ) The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as a Recreation Therapist Supervisor at MMHNCC. The Recreation Therapist Supervisor is responsible for organizing and managing a comprehensive recreation therapy program at the Montana Mental Health Nursing Care Center in accordance with the standards and regulations developed for providing long-term care to the geriatric population. The position develops and manages a core curriculum of recreational therapy services and assists/lead the day-to-day recreation requirements. Major Duties or Responsibilities: Management of recreation therapy program. Plans, implements, and evaluates evidenced based recreational activities. Directs the provision of recreational activities to ensure quality mental health services are adequate for each person served by the recreation department. Establishes, monitors and evaluates quality improvement indicators for the recreational activities in order to continually improve patient treatment outcomes. Works directly with the interdisciplinary team to review, discuss and coordinate patient care. Develops and maintains MMHNCC recreational services policies and procedures. Schedules and assigns recreational activities to appropriate staff members, monitors and evaluates the completion of assigned tasks and responsibilities. Manages and maintains the resident boutique. Works closely with the business office manager regarding the recreation budget. Assessment Interviews and observes residents to assess capabilities, interests, recreation needs, and plans appropriate interventions. Consults with the resident and care plan team to design and update the individualized plan of care. Observes, analyzes, and records residents' participation, reactions, and progress during recreation sessions, modifying treatment programs as needed. Documents care plans and prepares reports to reflect residents' reactions and progress or regression. Supervision Provides mentoring, coaching, guidance, training, and support to recreation aides to ensure services are delivered to high quality. Plans and implements staff development and education programs for recreation aides or other clinical staff. Establishes, assigns, directs, monitors and balances employee workloads. Handles performance appraisals, hiring/interviewing, and constructive discipline. Ensures dissemination of information through regular staff meetings. Physical and Environmental Demands: Potential for physical injury to self or others while assisting with the de-escalation of residents. Standing for prolonged periods of time and lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Training in facility approved intervention techniques is required. Supervision: This position supervises five employees. Qualifications for this Career Opportunity: Bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, or a related field. Two years of recreation therapist work experience. National Council for Therapeutic Recreation certification is required within one year of employment. Completion of approved recreation therapist internship may substitute for three months of the required experience. Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Preferred: Supervisory work experience.
