Description POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of a Staff Pharmacist, provides assistance to the pharmacist and pharmacy technicians to accomplish the goals of efficiently preparing and dispensing medications as well as providing excellent pharmacy services. Inpatient pharmacy technician trainee will learn the skills of hospital pharmacy technician including but not limited to sterile and non-sterile medication compounding, processing prescriptions, and restocking medication devices, while complying hospital and NM Board of Pharmacy laws and regulations. Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent is required. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Must register as a non-certified technician with the NM Board of Pharmacy and obtain national pharmacy technician certification licensure within 1 year from date of hire. SKILLS: Effective verbal and interpersonal skills are required Basic computer skills are required Familiarity with medical terminology, basic math and reading comprehension skills are preferred. EXPERIENCE: Hospital experience is preferred. NATURE OF SUPERVISION: -Responsible to: Pharmacy Director/Manager ENVIRONMENT: Bloodborne pathogen B Occasional exposure in daily duties. Little expected risk, but may be exposed unexpectedly to potential infectious materials. Exposure may be superficial and limited to a small amount of fluid. Close quarters in a busy environment. Low risk for infectious disease. Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, allergenic drug products and needle sticks.Moderate exposure to video display terminals. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to move throughout the hospital at a rapid pace for the entire shift. Hearing must be sufficient to answer telephones and eyesight must be sufficient to read requisitions. Hand-eye coordination must be sufficient to perform aseptic technique. Must be able to raise a moderate load (less than 50 lbs.) using sound body mechanics alone or with assistance.
