\nUnder the general supervision of the Antenatal Testing Unit Manager, the Ultrasound Technologist provides skill and initiative to the department mission through interactions with staff, Supervisor and others as necessary. Primary duties are to work as a Technologist generating diagnostic images for physicians, while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through Supervisor and the Medical Director of the department.\n

\nESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:\n
\n
\nPerforms procedures as required and necessary for proper departmental workflow. Satisfies operational requirements to include covering the department as determined necessary through either the Supervisor or Medical Director.\n
\n
\nCompletes procedures in timely fashion while providing high quality ultrasound exams.\n
\n
\nPrepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty at all times.\n
\n
\nFollows all departmental established and appropriate policies and procedures as required.\n
\n
\nUpholds the principles of ALARA ensuring that power settings are adjusted appropriately so that the patient’s exposure to ultrasound energy is kept As Low As Reasonably Achievable.\n
\n
\nPerforms duties as required in all areas of department or outside when appropriate for the hospital mission as determined by leadership.\n
\n
\nWork schedules as required either through regular scheduled hours or on-call as required for department needs.\n
\n
\nPerforms appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure. Follows requisition in terms of providing proper study for patients. Ensures that exams requested match patient condition and/or history and calls or asks proper persons for more information as necessary to perform the proper study.\n
\n
\nProvides service and care to patients of all ages.\n
\n
\nMaintains equipment and maximizes up time by initiating service calls with the equipment vendor and notifying leadership to maximize equipment up time, sustain quality patient care, and minimize dollar impact to the hospital.\n
\n
\nMaintains a customer service, patient care focus. Supports and promotes customer service initiatives implemented by leadership.\n
\n
\nHandles patient complaints professionally. Reports complaints to supervisor.\n
\n
\nHandles telephone calls and requests for services over the telephone and through other means both professionally and appropriately.\n
\n
\nTreats patients and fellow staff with dignity and respect and reports any/all problems to supervisor.\n
\n
\nAccommodates patient needs and staffing needs and requirements through flexibility in scheduling and timeliness of studies.\n
\n
\nUnderstands the requirements of the department by providing services to patients not only in performing of studies but also in providing any/all information on reports as necessary and appropriate.\n
\n
\nKeeps discussions around patients to a minimum and ensures that patients are not subjected to departmental conversations and any inappropriate behavior.\n
\n
\nMonitors patient conditions and if/when conditions are determined assistance may be required of an employee to take actions to facilitate the best course of action to include: nursing involvement, other assistance, further monitoring and/or other patient focused solutions.\n
\n
\nAccurately and thoroughly document procedures and exams though imaging and reporting. Complete any necessary ancillary forms such as lab slips, patient handouts and billing slips.\n
\n
\nUtilizes hospital's Values as the basis for decision-making and to facilitate the division's hospital mission.\n
\n
\nFollows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.\n
\n
\nPerforms other duties as assigned or as necessary.\n

\nJOB DESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTICS\n
\n
\nEDUCATION:\n
\n
\nAssociate's degree (or equivalent from two-year college) or certificate program in Ultrasound Technology.\n
\n
\nCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:\n
\n
\nRDMS required. Registry eligible candidates will be eligible for hire but must be RDMS certified within one year of employment.\n
\n
\nEXPERIENCE:\n
\n
\n1+ years experience in high-risk obstetrical ultrasound is preferred.\n
\n
\nKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:\n
\n
\nWork requires knowledge of principles and procedures of Ultrasound. Ability to perform Level 2 Fetal Anatomy ultrasounds, biophysical profiles, growth assessments, and assisting the attending physician with ultrasound guided procedures.\n
\n
\nWork requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients and all/any apprehensions, to instruct students and to provide technical supervision to staff technologists.\n
