A Machinist-A has advanced skills in CAD/CAM programming, fixturing, and operating commonly used CNC machine tools to fabricate complex hardware to tight tolerances of /- .0005 or better when required. A Machinist-A works with minimal supervision and can take direction directly from engineering when needed. A Machinist-A executes with a high level of quality and workmanship and can work with the team to develop solutions to problems as they arise. Duties/Responsibilities Program, setup, and operate manual and CNC machines to fabricate high quality hardware. Execute work based on instructions provided in the form of drawings, solid models, sketches and verbal instructions. Work with a minimum of supervision. May direct and train machinists of lower grade. Work with other machinists to develop new skills and abilities. Work with engineering to solve manufacturing issues. Adhere to all shop safety rules. Maintain a clean and professional work space. Skills/Abilities Experience in CAD/CAM programming, preferably GibbsCAM, PowerMill or ESPRIT (EDM). Maintain tolerances of /- .0005 or better when required. Ability to produce high quality parts from raw materials start to finish. Experience in understanding and interpreting GD&T. Knowledge of 3 and 5 axis CNC milling, CNC cylindrical grinding, wire and sinker EDM, CNC mill/turn lathe, and CNC surface grinding. Ability to work with materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, machinable ceramic, titanium, plastic, and other ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. Ability to adapt and adjust to rapidly changing priorities, tight deadlines, and unique program requirements. Motivation to grow and develop new machining skills and abilities. Education Graduation from a technical school machinist course and four-year vocational technical high school. Experience Requires a minimum of five years of applicable experience as a machinist.
