Position: Long Term Substitute School Counselor Location: Harrington Elementary School Assignment Dates: November 14, 2024 through February 23, 2025 (dates are subject to change) General Description: The Chelmsford Public Schools is seeking a skilled and dynamic School Counselor for the Harrington Elementary School (serving students in grades K-4) for a Long Term Substitute position. The School Counselor provides tiered school-wide student support through individual and small group counseling, PBIS and facilitation of social-emotional learning and social skills curriculum. The School Counselor will use a team approach and will work collaboratively to form partnerships with school staff, families and caregivers, and the local community in support of student success and well-being. School counselors adhere to, address, and practice all of the skills and competencies detailed by the MA Model for School Counseling and the American School Counselor Association National Model. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: School counseling practices are aligned to the ASCA Ethical Standards Be an advocate for all students Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental needs of students. Counsel individuals and small groups of students experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems Apply counseling theories and techniques to support students in crisis Acknowledge signs and symptoms to identify and support students in need that may require a referral for private counseling or require reporting to DCF Team member for Student Study Team (SST) and Child Protection Team (CPT) Deliver classroom lessons aligned to the counseling curriculum Lead or co-lead group counseling for identified students Attend, participate, and advocate for students at 504 and IEP meetings Organize and attend parent/teacher/counselor meetings as needed on an ongoing basis. Prioritize partnership with families and caregivers in support of student wellness and school success. Job Requirements Successful candidates will hold the appropriate Counseling degree and MA DESE certification. Ability to navigate a Student Information System (preferably X2) Commitment to high standards and expectations of equity.
