Applications are now open for the Hearst Journalism Fellowship, a two-year program focusing on journalism in a changing digital world. The Hearst Journalism Fellowship program consists of two 12-month rotations at our top metro papers. Fellows will receive training, mentoring, and real-world experience alongside top journalists who are using cutting-edge tools to tell stories through data, video, and more. Hearst Fellows are full-time employees with competitive salary and benefits, including health insurance and moving expenses. Eligibility Early-career journalists who have something to offer Hearst and would benefit from the program are welcome to apply. Anyone who has completed coursework and obtained a college degree by August 1, 2025, following the application deadline is eligible. A bachelor’s degree with 1 – 2 years of journalism experience is required. You are eligible if you possess a journalism degree from a non-accredited program or a degree in another field. Program Details The Fellowship is a two-year program focusing on journalism in a changing digital world. This program consists of two 12-month rotations at their top metro papers – San Francisco, Houston, San Antonio, Albany, and one of their papers in Connecticut. Fellows will receive training, mentoring, and real-world experience alongside top journalists who are using cutting-edge tools to tell stories through data, video, and more. Hearst Fellows are full-time employees with competitive salary and benefits, including health insurance, relocation allowance, and housing stipend depending on location. Selection Process Hearst’s leading editors will evaluate applications and select finalists to take a writing test. Following the test evaluation, finalists will engage in an online interview with the Editors-in-Chief from their prominent metropolitan newspapers.
