HBCU Youth Organizer (Chapter Vice-President) POSITION : Independent Contractor (1099) PERIOD: START DATE - VARIOUS REPORTS TO : HBCU Youth Organizer&Organizing Manager LOCATION : HBCU College or University in Texas PAY RATE: $500 monthly/stipend ORGANIZATION: Planned Parenthood Texas Votes (PPTV) is the statewide advocacy and political arm of the Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas, referred to as “local Planned Parenthood organizations.” Planned Parenthood Texas Votes works to foster and preserve a social and political climate in Texas favorable to full reproductive health care access, through legislative advocacy, grassroots organizing, and electoral activity, to promote and protect the mission of local Planned Parenthood organizations in Texas. The HBCU Vice-President Youth Organizers are responsible for carrying out Planned Parenthood Texas Votes’ mission and advocacy objectives by engaging new and existing supporters in the fight for reproductive health in Texas. They will work closely with the HBCU Youth Organizer to develop campus programming. This includes developing volunteer leaders and advocates, building and attending campus and community events, and executing effective campaigns. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Assist the Chapter President to continue or start a Planned Parenthood Generation Action on campus. Recruit, train, and activate volunteers on campus to support Planned Parenthood and access to reproductive healthcare by engaging in an advocacy campaign. Meet monthly with the Organizing Manager. Work in collaboration with the Chapter President and the executive board to execute field tactics such as campus campaigns, community events (virtual and in-person), and leadership development training. Maintain all data in the Voter Activation Network (VAN), including new supporter sign-ups and events. Additional duties, as assigned. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Must be working towards a Bachelor’s or Master's degree from a Historically Black College or University. Must be in a leadership position at a current or beginning Planned Parenthood student chapter. Some experience directly working on topics such as reproductive rights, public policy, politics, community organizing, and movement building. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment. Working knowledge of Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite. Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Assist the President to manage, track, and report on chapter monthly activities in an accurate and timely manner. Training As a HBCU Youth Organizer, you will participate in regional, state, and national training run by experienced Planned Parenthood staff. All Youth Organizers are required to attend and recruit young leaders for various training and events that will be held throughout the year.
