Job Description
Controller Responsibilities: Maintain the integrity of accounting systems Assist the management with projects, government surveys, and other reporting as required. Ensure timeliness of month-end close (5-6 business days). Oversee, mentor, and assist a team of accountants Review current accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls, and make recommendations for improvements while documenting accordingly. Review financial statements prepared by staff, determine any items that need to be researched or explained, and present financials to the CFO for review prior to distribution to management. Learn the daily, weekly, and monthly tasks that are completed by the accounting team to gain an understanding of operations and be able to support the team as needed. Assist the Director of Human Resources and Payroll with the annual 401k audit as needed. Performs staff annual reviews. Monitors the accounting processes, compliance, and regulations while providing education and feedback. Serves as a resource for the accounting staff by answering questions, conducting training, preparing educational materials, and mentoring. Monitors staff assignments, targets, and workflow and ensures coverage. Responsible for keeping the employee data accurate and current. Qualifications: 5 years of progressive accounting experience including managing accounting staff. BA degree required, CPA a plus Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills required. Proficiency in Sage preferred.
