The Chief Medical Officer has the executive responsibility for managing the Hospital's support functions for Medical Staff responsibilities. This position is intended to be a full-time administrative position. The principal responsibilities will be to provide leadership to and facilitate the activities of Medical Staff Services, Quality&Case Management, Risk Management, Medical Records and Medical Education. The individual will assume a facilitative role to assist the Chief of Staff, its officers, and department chairmen in carrying out their responsibilities. This role will serve as an advocate for the medical staff, while concurrently serving as a key member of the Executive Management Team, helping to further build relationships between the hospital and its medical staff. This position does not replace or usurp the authority of the Chief of Staff, the Medical Staff department or committees. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provide leadership direction for the Medical Staff and develops/implements strategic plan to achieve the goals of the function. Provide leadership direction and supervision of the Medical Staff Office and other functional areas as assigned. Provide support to the Chief Executive in carrying out their responsibilities, including staff support to department and committee chairpersons. Serve in an advisory and communication role to the Chief Executive on medical-administrative matters. Provide leadership to the clinical quality enhancement function of the Hospital and assist appropriate Hospital and Medical Staff departments and committees in maintaining and improving the quality of medical programs. Facilitate communication and coordination of the Hospital's professional departments and their respective medical directors to improve patient care activities. Be attentive to the needs and requests of the Medical Staff, and facilitate the Hospital's response to such. Facilitate cooperation and communication of the Medical Staff departments and the nursing division. Constantly search for opportunities to improve clinical integration by and between PCSTMC and Health System entities. Lead Quality initiatives to improve the quality of our providers. Report to and receive formal authority from the Chief Executive. Report monthly to the Medical Executive Committee on matters of interest to the Medical Staff and issues related to their job responsibilities. Serve as an Ex-officio non-voting member of the Medical Executive Committee, Quality Improvement and Credentials committees and such other committees as appropriate. Understand the strategic relationship with Cedar Sinai and strengthen the relationship between PCSTMC and Cedar Sinai. QUALIFICATIONS M.D. and Board eligibility training in a major specialty. Experience as a Chief Medical Officer/Vice President Medical Affairs (preferred). Upon hire: California Physician Osteopathic License (Vendor Managed); or California Physician and Surgeon A License (Vendor Managed); or California Physician and Surgeon C License (Vendor Managed); or California Physician and Surgeon G License (Vendor Managed). Working knowledge of information systems essential to efficient operations and quality improvement. Understanding of the dynamics of managed care and its effects on all stakeholders. Able to develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with the medical staff, Board of Trustees, and management. Able to motivate and assist medical staff leadership to ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
