St. Anthony’s Dining Room provides hot, nutritious meals daily (breakfast and lunch) in a welcoming community setting. As a Chef on the Dining Room team, you will assist in the preparation, planning, and serving of our high-quality meals. In the spirit of our Franciscan values and heritage, our team provides compassion and care daily. As a steward of healing and social justice, you are expected to meet the following duties: Essential Duties and Responsibilities Food Service, Safety, and Production Responsible for preparing the daily meal and ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the kitchen and serving line. Coordinate, train, and direct kitchen assistants, dishwashing staff, and volunteers on the serving line. Coordinate with Prep Chefs for daily prep work, meal kits, and complete prep sheets as needed. Fill in for Prep Chefs as needed. Ensure cleanliness of the kitchen work area including ovens, steam kettles, serving line, prep area, walk-in freezer and fridge, food preparation equipment, and storage areas. Ensure compliance with sanitary food handling procedures and stock rotation systems. Assist with menu development, planning, and ordering. Monitor use of supplies in the kitchen. Complete and maintain appropriate records and forms neatly and accurately. Facilitate and ensure a safe environment in the kitchen. Observe safety procedures and assist in identifying workplace hazards. Participate in regular training opportunities to increase personal capacity for innovative approaches to workflows, service delivery, and employee engagement. Program Administration Complete reports and all other paperwork neatly, legibly, and thoroughly. Enter data electronically as required. Look up data and reports electronically through a database as requested. Understand and follow the organization's programs, policies, and procedures. Participate in regular training opportunities to increase personal capacity for innovative approaches to workflows, service delivery, and employee engagement. Teamwork Participate in relevant meetings to support team communication and the program's capacity to fulfill organizational goals and mission. Collaboratively work with others to achieve team success. Manage stress and pressure situations calmly and responsively. Maintain awareness of how behavior can impact others. Minimum Qualifications Culinary Degree or 4 years’ equivalent experience. Excellent food knowledge and creativity to produce quality menu items from varied sources. Minimum two years’ experience as a chef. ServSafe Food Handlers/Managers Card or equivalent certification, or willingness to complete training within 30 days of employment. Ability to move cases and bulk bags of food, and perform physical labor required by volume cooking (e.g., stirring steam kettles, lifting pans). Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds. Excellent interpersonal, listening, oral, and written communication skills are required. Ability to be polite, diplomatic, and firm. Can set limits and practice professional boundaries with guests, volunteers, and coworkers. Ability to respond to emergencies and high-pressure situations in a composed manner. Ability to work non-traditional hours and days (weekends and holidays required). Ability to complete paperwork neatly and legibly. Willingness to learn to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information. Punctual, reliable, cooperative, and team-oriented. Experience working in a non-profit or community-based social service agency with people experiencing homelessness or poverty preferred.
