Job Description

If so, start a rewarding career as a Cadre Instructor at the Montana Youth Challenge Academy. The Academy is a residential academic intervention for youth at risk of high school dropout located at the University of Montana Western in Dillon, MT. The Academy leverages certain aspects of military training, such as team accountability, leadership, and physical fitness training to help youth build positive skills, self-confidence, and bright futures. Cadre Instructors create a safe, healthy, and highly-structured environment in which program participants learn: Coping skills to handle emotional adversity; Time management, problem solving, and communication skills; Self-motivation and movement toward life goals; Personal accountability and team pride. Cadre Instructors maintain the safety, welfare, and accountability of program participants. They model all standards of conduct, and offer direct instruction in leadership, military customs and courtesies, and physical fitness training. Shift and duty differential pay may increase this base rate. A tiered pay scale offers pay increases, depending on performance, after the first six months of employment. This is an entry-level professional position that builds pathways into a variety of human service fields, such as education, social work, psychology, advocacy, and community development. Successful candidates draw on diverse experiences, any combination of which may be considered: An associates degree or two years of post-secondary schooling in a human service related academic discipline such as psychology, sociology, social work, or education; Two years of professional experience coaching, mentoring, teaching, or leading youth; Two years of military experience. Conditions of Employment: Must be a citizen of the United States of America; Must be able to pass background and driving record checks; Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Montana drivers’ license; Must have a good driving record; Must be of sound judgment and good character, as indicated by reference and background checks; Must pass a pre-employment and on-going, random drug screenings.
