Position Summary: The Billing Specialist for Emergency Room Patient Collections will be responsible for managing patient accounts related to emergency room visits. This role involves ensuring accurate billing, timely collection of payments, and resolving account discrepancies. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of medical billing, insurance processes, and patient account management, with a focus on delivering excellent customer service. Responsibilities: · Review and confirm the accuracy of patient demographic and insurance information for billing purposes. · Verify patient insurance coverage and ensure proper authorization for services rendered. · Patient Billing and Collections: Generate patient statements, respond to billing inquiries, explain charges and insurance coverage, set up payment plans, and initiate collections procedures when necessary. · Liaise with patients, the billing company, insurance companies, and other departments to resolve billing-related issues, provide necessary documentation, and facilitate effective communication regarding claims and reimbursements. · Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements in all billing and collection activities. · Compile and analyze billing data, generate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), and assist in monitoring revenue cycle performance. · Correct billing errors assigned by the billing company promptly and accurately to ensure compliance and timely billing. · Rectify internal Electronic Health Record (EHR) data errors in the billing system to ensure accurate reporting metrics. · Review failed payment plans, attempt revenue recovery, and report metrics monthly. · Generate invoices for corporate accounts. · Process incoming mail and make daily deposits. · Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. · Negotiate claims related to legal matters. · Cllaim coding · Other duties as assigned Qualifications and Requirements: · High school diploma or equivalent (associate or bachelor's degree preferred). · Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in an emergency department or acute care setting. · Knowledge of insurance plans, policies, and claim submission requirements. · Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including creating spreadsheets, using formulas, and analyzing data. · Familiarity with electronic health record systems and medical terminology. · Strong attention to detail and accuracy. · Excellent communication and customer service skills. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines. · Knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations, including HIPAA. · Proficiency in using EHR, billing software and Microsoft Office applications. · EOB knowledge · Certification in medical coding (e.g., CPC, CCS) is a plus.
