Job Description Summary Onsite - Cambridge, MA or San Diego, CA In this key role of Associate Director, Global Program Management, you will lead programs and projects in our Biomedical Research facility in Cambridge, MA. This influential individual contributor role works with stakeholders from various functions to deliver projects in line with departmental strategy, objectives, and timelines. Your key responsibilities: Lead project teams with respect to the timing, scenario/options development, risk management, opportunities/challenges, and requirements of interfacing with Decision Boards. Partner with project team leaders and functional leaders to define project strategy in alignment with DA goals, develop and maintain integrated project plans across the RDC continuum, and manage diverse teams across multiple sites to meet project timelines/goals. Drive speed and increase probability of success in drug discovery and development programs through best practice program management. Continuously adapt project strategy based on internal and external information. Assure continuous consistency of the operational plan with project strategy to ensure Biomedical Research portfolio decisions align to Novartis strategy. Use drug discovery and development expertise (especially preclinical and early clinical development) to integrate knowledge of all line functions for project. Contribute scientific, clinical knowledge&expertise and knowledge of disease areas to create new value-adding opportunities or maximize the value of existing projects and programs. Ensure that key milestones and go/no go criteria are data-driven and clearly defined. Own quality of project information and make sure project information is accurate and included in the system(s) in a timely manner. Manage and communicate project status, issues, and options for resolution to ensure optimal and timely information flow to all stakeholders. Ensure transparent and timely program reporting and communication to key organization boards and stakeholders. Engage late-stage development and commercial stakeholders from preparation of PS/PE onwards (including (B)DC and IDPA) to align on jointly advancing the project until TDP transition. Foster effective, proactive, and open communication within and across project teams, building trust among team members to achieve transparency and clarity of program goals, progress, and issues. Establish mutual respect and trust in the program team. Contribute to the functional excellence of program management through improvement in processes, procedures, and tools related to program management practices. What You’ll Bring to the Role: Master’s in life sciences OR MBA with bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience in life science. 8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience. Track record of success working with and managing international and multidisciplinary drug development teams. Experience driving drug discovery and development and partnering in integrated teams. Project Management expertise including: All aspects of project planning and execution. Aligning project plans to wider strategy. Managing portfolio systems. Financial forecasting for projects/portfolio. Applying scientific/clinical knowledge to advance projects. Integrating perspectives from across the development pipeline. Implementing learning/best practices from similar projects. Preferred Qualifications: PhD in life sciences PMP certification (or similar) preferred but not necessary.
