Job Description: The Assistant Vice President of Underwriting will oversee underwriting of workers’ compensation and core commercial package clients in the West Region. This role involves providing strategic leadership and management to a diverse team, including managers, supervisors, underwriters, and underwriting assistants. Your team will handle underwriting, review, and placement of risk for accounts generating more than $25,000 in premium, with a focus on complex middle-market and large workers’ compensation accounts. This individual is responsible for the profitable growth of the portfolio. Responsibilities: Provide mentoring and professional development to the team of underwriters. Achieve core operating income, real growth objectives, and maintain quality of business. Ensure that the team adheres to company guidelines and standards regarding risk acceptability. Manage the selection and denial of new and/or renewal business including management of pricing targets, renewal retention targets, and profitability targets. Monitor underwriting decisions through regular audits and address issues as appropriate, either individually or through group training. Work in tandem with sales leadership and management to build, maintain, and improve producer relationships through responsive engagement, market visibility, and solutions-oriented underwriting. Manage and monitor all stages of underwriting execution. Create and distribute management reports detailing various functions and status on a monthly basis. Travel as needed to perform agency visits or to attend company and industry meetings. Keep current with market trends and demands. Perform other functionally related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree 10 years of experience successfully leading and supervising staff Demonstrated effective management and leadership skills Thorough knowledge of property/casualty underwriting and a proven track record in building a profitable portfolio Demonstrated ability to lead, plan and work well with others Extensive knowledge of NCCI, ISO, and state regulations relating to insurance Strong understanding of underwriting best practices and ability to apply them Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Strong organizational, analytical, and interpretive skills Ability to effectively multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment Ability to collaborate, “think outside the box” and make sound decisions to resolve complex matters Ability to travel and work outside normal business hours Contact: Sal Monteleone 1 (312) 884-0448 smonteleonejacobsononline.com J-18808-Ljbffr
