Assistant Professor of Computer Science The Department of Computer Science in the Physical Sciences Division at the University of Chicago invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a broad area search and invites applicants from all subareas of Computer Science and Engineering. Members of the faculty are expected to lead research programs that will produce significant contributions to a field and teach and mentor at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Computer Science (cs.uchicago.edu) is the hub of a large, diverse community of researchers focused on advancing the foundations of computing and driving its most advanced applications. The larger computer science community at the University of Chicago includes the Data Science Institute (jointly run by the departments of computer science and statistics), the Toyota Technological Institute at Chicago (TTIC), the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and Argonne National Laboratory. We encourage connections with researchers across the university in such areas as bioinformatics, data science, mathematics, molecular engineering, linguistics, statistics, public policy, and social science, among others: the University’s culture is highly collaborative. The University of Chicago is in the midst of an ambitious, multi-year effort to significantly expand its computing, data science, and AI activities. This represents a unique opportunity for junior faculty to contribute to the future of the department’s culture and trajectory. The Department of Computer Science is housed in a newly designed, state-of-the-art building that encourages collaboration, experimentation, and interaction. Qualifications Completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field is required at the time of appointment.
